26.06.2020
12:00
On June 26, at 12:00, "Media Center" organized an online discussion on "Torture cases: Is this New or Old Armenia?”

The speakers were:
Gohar Simonyan, Head of the Coordinating Department for the Implementation of the National Mechanism of Prevention of the Human Rights Defender's Office of the Republic of Armenia

Ofelia Zalyan, Program Coordinator of HCA Vanadzor

Ara Gharagyozyan, lawyer of "Helsinki Association" NGO

June 26 is the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, adopted by the United Nations.
In 2015, when the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia was amended and supplemented by Articles 309-1, it was expected that the officials with whose participation the torture cases took place would not go unpunished.
For five years, however, Armenian courts have not convicted anyone under this article.
