The speakers were Gnel Sanoyan, RA deputy minister of nature protection, Inga Zarafyan, president of Ecolur informational NGO, Hakob Sanasaryan, president of the Greens Union and Silva Adamyan, coordinator at environmental public alliance.
The deputy minister noted that that the ministry initiated the process of gradual elimination of polyethylene bag. The town of Talin from Aragatsotn region was chosen a pilot town for the first phase. There the ministry of nature protection jointly with Talin municipality organized public hearings on “Green Talin: the first community to drop disposable polyethylene bags”.
Inga Zarafyan noted there are still transparency-related issues in the work of the ministry. She raised the issue of Sevan water intake which damages the eco-system of the lake.
According to Hakob Sanasaryan the 100 days of the ministry have not been very effective. He stressed that the ministry of nature protection keeps backing the mining industry. Even though it is encouraging that prime minister Pashinyan is not a mine owner however the state should not pursue narrowed down interests.
Silva Adamyan raised the issue of effective allocation of funds granted to Armenia by international organizations with the end of nature protection and noted that the ministry must be accountable to the public for each penny.
