Artsvik Minasyan believes the system of public transport in Yerevan first all needs a proper management system.
“I am against the construction of underground parking lots distorting the looks of our city and creating safety concerns. Another issue is that there is no connections among the means of transportation here, whereas in many CIS countries is has become a common practice that with one ticket you can use all types of public transport,” voices his concerns Minasyan.
Armen Poghosyan says he categorically objects to the recent large-scale import of buses.
“Electric transport should be introduced, which is the only right course of development,” he says.
Gurgen Gasparyan is mostly concerned over the traffic jams in the city.
“Traffic jams are the consequence of minibus route owners wanting their vehicles to use only main roads, leaving other streets unused,” he says.
Aren Manukyan believes in order to introduce automated management systems the current state administration has to change first.
‘Try to take away the tenders for minibus routes from mayor Taron Margaryan and you will fail, because he owns several of them himself, hence we are talking about personal interest and big money,” Manukyan claims with conviction.
Eduard Hovhannisyan, leader of the Society for the Defense of Drivers' Rights Achilles, says the election platforms do not address the fact that road traffic regulation is the liability of the police, rather than the municipality.
“I am sure that the road traffic management is exclusively a city hall function and has to be taken away from the police,” shared his opinion Artur Misakyan.
Hrach Sargsyan agrees with Misakyan that all the means of transportation should be administered by the municipality rather than any other state structure.
Almost all the party representatives agree that Yerevan needs new subway stations. Architect Gurgen Musheghyan wonders why their construction is being delayed. A suggestion was voiced that like in all developed countries subway stations should be built leading to the airport.
