The Armenian Government borrows a loan of USD 30 million to pay short-term loans of state electricity stations rather than to improve the energy industry in the country. As a result, the payment period is prolonged, with the Government increasing its gross debt.
Yerevan is losing its face as ancient buildings in the center of the city are being demolished. Demolition of buildings and ancient underground wine cellars on Pushkin, Abovyan and Aram streets, along with the construction of multifunctional buildings in these territories, damages not only the architectural view of Yerevan but also its attractiveness for tourism and wine industry. Representatives of tour operators and wine industry stated this at the Media Center conference held on 19 February.
The February 14 local elections in the consolidated communities in Tavush, Syunik and Lori regions are credible despite some minor violations. The Central Electoral Committee did not receive complaints.

The devastating conditions for animals at Gyumri “zoo” need to be changed urgently. The animals, two bears and three lions, will leave Armenia not to return as long as the country does not provide proper conditions for them.
Today Media Center held a discussion on dismantlement of the building on 30 Aram Street. The participants were Ashot Alexanyan, the architect, the author of the project, under-construction building located behind 30 Aram street, Arsen Karapetyan, architect at the ARCHcoop Arhitectural Studio, Anahit Bakhshyan, teacher, member of the Yerevan city council and the block “Hello Yerevan” and Levon Igityan, architect, faction member of the “Republican Party.”

The suspension of the international sanctions against Iran opens wide political, economic and energetic prospects for that country in the Middle East and the South Caucasus. The end of Iran’s international isolation will give Armenia a good opportunity to intensify the economic and energetic cooperation with Tehran. There is a good chance to intensify also tourism from Iran to Armenia and vice versa, as well as to unite the tourism markets of two countries. This is the opinion of the experts, expressed during the discussion at Media Center.
Though the city council has worked in Yerevan for several years, it still fails to fully balance and monitor the city mayor’s activities. The mayor keeps maintaining power in the relations with the city council. The Mayor’s actions affected the programs of the city administration and effective enactment of the decisions.
