Media Center hosted a discussion today about the trial of activist Gevorg Safaryan, a member of the "Founding Parliament", activist, who was sentenced to 2 years in prison on January 16, based on the decision of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan.
Each representative in the LGBT community in Armenia is born and grows up in an intolerant society. Manifestations of discrimination and violations of the rights of LGBT people are mostly explored at enforcement agencies, family, media, state agencies, health sector, religious organizations, at work, educational institutions and entertainment venues.
Although a few months are left for the parliamentary elections, there is no outlined activity in the political process. The political forces are engaged in the negotiations on developing formats of alliances and pre-election cooperation. As experts said, almost no political force managed to establish political capital, which would make them convincing during elections.
A discussion was held ahead of the International Day of Human Rights at Media Center with the participation of Larisa Alaverdyan, Executive Director of "The Foundation Against the Violation of Law" NGO, RA first Ombudsman, Artak Zeynalyan, Member of "Rule of Law" NGO and Artur Sakunts, Head of the Vanadzor office of the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly.
There are reasonable grounds for assuming that the Russian Federal Security Service has unimpeded access to the personal data of all the citizens crossing the RA border. Daniel Ioannisyan, the Program coordinator of the "Informed citizens of the Union" NGO, said this at the Media Center on December 5.
Although there are no precise data, according to advocates, there are still more than five dozen citizens (besides the armed group members) in custody as a consequence of the July events. Arayik Papikyan, Advocate, Representative of Helsinki Association, said during the press conference, entitled "The Cases of Detained Citizens during the July Events: Evaluation of the Preliminary Phase" at Media Center on November 24.
The concluding press conference of Matthias Kisler, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Armenia, was held on November 22 at Media Center.
Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Project Director of Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center, presented the results of the Global Corruption Barometer 2016 during the press conference held at Media Centre on November 16.
"Informed Citizens Association" NGO has created a unique project in the Armenian Internet segment called "SUT.am" the main goal of which is to reveal the false information published by the officials, the official bodies, and the media.
The main Armenian lobbying organizations maintained neutrality during the USA presidential elections and did not support any candidate. Now when Donald Trump is elected as the US president, the Armenian organizations try to understand the foreign policy approaches of Trump who has little political experience and to elaborate on approaches to work with the Republican administration in the White House.
“It is not important for whom the American people vote, it is important for them to be their choice’’. Stepan Grigoryan, Chairman of Analytical Centre on Globalization and Regional Cooperation (ACGRC), Political Scientist, expressed this point of view during the discussion at Media Center.
