Political forces consider local elections important. Few of the opposition, however, run for the posts at local governments. The same situation is observed during the pre-election period of the June 7 elections.
At the 2013 Vilnius Summit Armenia – unlike Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova – did not sign the EU Association Agreement following its joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). Brussels and Yerevan, though, intend to sign a new agreement which will be based on the previously drafted variant and will embrace the new realities as well, namely Armenia’s commitments to the EEU.
Following the EU Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, Brussels and Yerevan confirmed their readiness to continue the dialogue for visa facilitation and development of a new agreement, say the Armenian participants of the recent Eastern Partnership Civil Forum in Riga.
Any individual in Armenia – regardless of the affiliation to a minority or social group – may suffer discrimination. Thus, an anti-discrimination law will enhance the protection of discrimination victims’ rights, civil society representatives and rights defenders believe.
