"Bright Armenia" party will be actively involved in the upcoming local elections planned on September 18 and October 2, and it nominated a total of 53 candidates to ensure the competitiveness in small and large communities.

"Bright Armenia" party Chairman Edmon Marukyan said this today at Media Center.

"We give much importance to local elections. The famous saying says that democracy begins in places. There were approaches that we should go from top and start changing from the top to down. We think that the chances of changing from down to top are more democratic, more real and more capable to ensure civil society involvement rather than top-down amendments, which I consider not so much democratic. Where we have head of community candidates, they were not nominated just to participate in the elections, they have a serious chance of winning, and we struggle to take power in these communities," Maroukyan said.

“Bright Armenia” proposed candidates for Head of Community in Vanadzor, Sisian, Noyemberyan and Jrarat.

"In the rest of the communities where we have a city council candidates, council members will try to form local democratic culture, set control of the budget and try to organize work of the Council so well that in the upcoming 2017 parliamentary elections both "Bright Armenia" brand and the work carried out by the City Council bring serious voices from these communities,» Marukyan said.

The council list of "Bright Armenia" party has been established, it is composed of 35 members. It is led by Krist Marukyan, candidate for mayor of Vanadzor.

“In Vanadzor, it is clear that we not only have chances to win, but we will win. All our and other parties’ research studies have shown that the Republican Party will lose and “Bright Armenia” Party will win," Marukyan said confidently.

Referring to the local elections in Gyumri, Marukyan stressed that they are cooperating with the Gala Party.

"In Gyumri the situation is different. We conducted detailed studies. We have had two opportunities to participate with a separate list, to act as a strong candidate, but according to our calculations, it would result that we only had a faction in Gyumri. In Gyumri we cooperate with Gala party, "Bright Armenia" is the only one that has candidates in Gala's election list. It is important that Gala party wins in the local elections of Gyumri. GALA has better idea of the problems in Gyumri than we, as a new party," Marukyan said.

"Bright Armenia" Party Secretary Mane Tandilyan said that "Bright Armenia" was presented in 5 regions -Syunik, Tavush, Armavir, Lori and Shirak.

"We have 7 candidates of Head of Community: in Sisian of Syunik, in Noymeberyan of Tavush, in Ayrum and Chochkan communities of Lori, in Armavir and Jrarat," Tandilyan said.

The list of the party consists of 53 council members, the majority of which, about 35, are in Vanadzor. 18 council members are in the other polling stations - Lori, Tavush and Gyumri.

“The government candidate has won in Jrarat for many years, and today we have a really serious candidate Arman Ghukasyan, who has all the potential and chances to win there. The emphasis that I want to do is the nomination of Sisian mayor, who is the only female candidate to be nominated today as Head of Community," Tandilyan added.
