TI Armenia Presents Important Data Available in Voter Lists

The Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center launched its electronic program to monitor the voting numbers of the 2012 parliamentary and 2013 presidential elections and Yerevan City Council elections in 2013.

Today the Media Center hosted Varuzhan Hoktanyan’s press conference. The Transparency International Anti-Corruption Center Head spoke on the findings of the study of voter lists for the December 6 Referendum.

“The program, we expect, will interest all people who claim that they seek to have fair elections – political parties, observers, citizens who now have an access to these data and can check the information available about themselves,” said Varuzhan Hoktanyan.

During the press conference Hoktanyan navigated through several pages of the program site and spoke on the possible ways of forging the upcoming referendum. On December 6 the program will be updated online.

The authorities, though, are unlikely to use the program, Hoktanyan believes. Back in 2012 the Armenian National Congress appealed the results of the parliamentary elections and presented the findings available through the program but the Constitutional Court was reluctant to study thoroughly the data, insisting that those were not official numbers, the TI Head recalled.

“The person who lost freedom lost hope for life. He doesn’t know when he will be released and what awaits him.”
At the beginning I did not figure out how long I will stay in prison. In Nubarashen penitentiary the cells are in a poor condition. The walls are covered with mould, insects and even scorpions entered the cells. The air was stuffy. Sometimes 14 people would stay in a cell equipped for 12.
