Freedom of Conscience in Armenia: Journalistic Studies in a Book
04.07.2014
15:00
The studies conducted by various mass media over recent 5 years prove that the attitude towards the adherents of non apostolic churches has become more tolerant, at least it is stated in the publications.

Coauthors of the book ‘Community and the Country: Study on Freedom of Conscience in Armenia’ Vahan Ishkhanyan, Sara Khojoyan and Meri Yeranosyan stated that they intended to present the legislative obstacles to freedom of conscience in Armenia, relations between religious communities, as well as the overall analysis of diverse studies with respect to freedom of conscience within past 5 years.

‘The term of proselytism must not be included in the amended legislation though the Ministry of Justice assures that the term is omitted from the new bill,’ said Mary Yeranosyan.

‘We don’t differentiate between the Armenian Apostolic Church and other churches seeking to present it in our articles,’ stated Sara Khojoyan, noting that their main aim was to describe the pressure exerted on the heroes of the articles through specific examples.

Vahan Ishkhanyan noted that they mainly discussed the issues of non-apostolic churches since ‘I am more concerned over the fact whether other church adherents are oppressed or not.’
