The exhibition featuring Minas and Narek Avetisyans’ works will continue to be displayed at the Moritzburg Art Gallery until May 4.
“We celebrated Minas Avetisyan’s 85th birthday in 2013, and the Cultures in Dialogue Foundation decided to organize an exhibition in the artist's honor, outside of the borders of Armenia”, said Sona Harutyunyan, the head of Cultures in Dialogue Foundation during the conference held at the “Media Center”.

On February 20, the Cultures in Dialogue Foundation, with the collaboration of the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt and Moritzburg Art Gallery, presented the exhibition entitled “Minas and Narek Avetisyan Modernism and Avant-Garde in Armenia”, which launched 2014’s exhibitions and events.

The exhibition features 19 pieces of work from Minas Avetisyan and 9 pieces from Narek Avetisyan. An illustration book was created in 3 languages, and prepared by German artists, which will help promote the development of Armenian fine arts.

“After the collapse of the Soviet Union, we sought to cultivate modern and contemporary art in Armenia though mine and Minas Avetsiayan's art work.  It was very important for us  to see our works next to pieces created by German expressionists, because the process helped us analyze  the differences and similarities between the works, and to understand our identity and meaning within modern art”, said artist Narek Avetisyan.

In order to bring the exhibition to fruition, the Armenian Ministry of Culture funded the transportation and insurance for Minas Avetisyan’s pieces.

Although according to Sona Harutyunyan, there are no cultural policies in the Armenian cultural arena, because of a lack of target orientation, she did mention the Armenian and Saxony-Anhalt's Ministers of Culture intend to collaborate intensively in the fields of education and culture.

«The directorate of Moritzburg Art Gallery mentioned that this exhibition marks the first time in the history of the gallery, that Armenian modern art is unaffiliated with projects connected with Armenian tourism, but is instead dedicated to the German art lovers», mentioned Sona Harutyunyan.

According to Narek Avetisyan, modern art in Armenia must undergo a reformation; that's why he intended to show its development through his exhibition. The European audience wants to see the difference, a modern word which will not be impersonal.

On February 28, a press conference was held in “Media Center” dedicated to the exhibition entitled “Minas and Narek Avetisyan Modernism and Avand-Gard in Armenia” which took place at the German Molitzburg Art Gallery on February 20, 2014. The speakers of the conference were artist Narek Avetisyan and the head of Cultures in Dialogue Foundation, Sona Harutyunyan.
