"Shant and Freedom" Fund was founded in order to support families who are persecuted for their political views.
"There are 15 political prisoners: Shant, his friends, and fighter by the name of Volodya Avetisyan. They have families and children who are in need of moral and material support," said the foundation's founder Felix Hayrapetyan at the conference in the Media Center.

The Fund aims to provide legal assistance to those who are persecuted and to create social, health, financial programs for their families. The activities of these programs will be regulated by the Foundation's Board of Trustees.

"Our largest obstacle is the level of financial input we receive.   We use the resources that we do have to provide material assistance to detainees, and detainees' families, as well as lobbying efforts to ensure their freedom," said Foundation Trustee Michael Hayrapetyan.

"We seek to do the following: to help the families who are fighting for all of our freedoms, the families who are struggling to achieve complete political independence", said the foundation's trustee Edward Zorikyan.  "I know that has been a lot of light shined on the legal assistance that the lawyers are providing, but we always forget that every prisoner has a family.  These families consist of women, children, and grandparents, and the detainees are often the breadwinners of the entire unit", he added.

"Those who wish to support us financially can make donations  online or by visiting banks.  To learn more about the Foundation, please visit www.shantfoundation.org.
