Hackathon[YAN] Flight 2013 will take place on December 21-22 at Zvartnots International Airport. Teams consisting of programmers and non-programmers will develop the prototypes/demo versions of their programs, applications, mobile applications that will be assessed by the panel of experts.
“The final destination point of the innovative mentality is the whole world. The technologies Hackathon[YAN] is led by are borderless. A good team can make a winning trip around the world”, Seda Muradyan said today at the press conference held at the Media Center.
Yeva Hyusyan, Director of Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia mentioned that participation of about 50 teams is expected this year, whereas only 30-35 applications were submitted for Hackathon[YAN] 2011 and 2012.
“The interest around the contest is growing”, Hyusyan says, “Many young people have established their own companies inspired by Hackathon[YAN]. There are mobile applications developed in Armenia that have more than 80 million downloads around the world”.
Hackathon[YAN] 2013 will have a winner who will get a prize of 1 million AMD. Encouraging prizes are set up for 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.
Country Manager at Microsoft Armenia Grigor Barseghyan informed that the jury will make their choice based on 3 main principles – first of all, originality and novelty of the idea, secondly, technical implementation and, last but not least, the business model.
However, Grigor Barseghyan thinks that the best prize for the participants is the participation itself. The most talented participants of the hackathon get job offers, as a rule.
“Armenian IT area is quite developed, yet various spheres still lack technological solutions as the existing system is more oriented to working with foreign countries. This event encourages young people to develop their own products which can be introduced to the whole world”, Grigor Barseghyan says.
Seda Muradyan added that the authors of a number of ideas presented at Hackathon[YAN] received grants from international organizations.
“Zvartnots” International Airport always welcomes such events”, airport administrator Gayane Stepanyan says, adding that “Zvartnots” will provide the best conditions for the participants of the contest.
Deputy General Manager of “Armenia” International Airports” CJSC Andranik Shkhyan emphasized that Zvartnots has all the criteria to host Hackathon and similar events.
