Shant Harutyunyan acted in the frames of Universal Declaration of Human Rights and realized every citizen’s right of rebellion, Chairman of Helsinki Citizens' Assembly-Vanadzor Artur Sakunts claimed at the discussion held at the Media Center on November 8.

Activist Davit Gevorgyan who was among the first arrested said he had been kept in the police department for 4 hours without being properly informed on the reasons of the arrest.

Member of the Public Monitoring Group at the Detention Facilities Nelly Harutyunyan said the right of the arrested to inform relatives about being in custody had been violated.

Political analyst Edgar Vardanyan is convinced Shant Harutyunyan’s assessment of the current political system is sober and adequate. Vardanyan presumes there was a provocation on November 5 aimed at generating a chaotic situation.

Media expert Samvel Martirosyan said that both authorities and opposition in Armenia are so passive that the appearance of new young waves unsatisfied with the “frozen” state is natural.

On November 8 the Media Center hosted a discussion on the clashes between activists and the police on November 5. The speakers of the discussion included Davit Gevorgyan, activist; Artur Sakunts, Chairman of Helsinki Citizens' Assembly-Vanadzor; Samvel Martirosyan, media expert;  Nelly Harutyunyan, member of Public Monitoring Group at the Detention Facilities and Edgar Vardanyan, political analyst. The invited speakers from the Police and Prosecutor's office declined to participate in the discussion stating no public announcements can be made during the preliminary investigation which had already begun.
