The issue of dog population control in Yerevan is on the right way and the number of stray animals has been reduced in the capital, Alfred Hunanyan, Deputy Head of Trade and Services Department at the Yerevan Municipality said at the Panel Discussion organized at the Media Center.

The city hall official noted that there is no country in the world where the issue of the stray dogs is completely dealt with.

Nare Aramian, representative of Armenian office of Pro Paws British charity organization is convinced that the issue cannot be solved in Armenia, where there is a lack of specialists, strategic program and legislation.

Yerevan Municipality has been allocating money for dog sterilization and euthanasia to “Unigraph X” LLC since 2006. The company is the only one to apply and win the municipality tender.

However, Hunanyan, referring to the RA Law on Purchases, is convinced that the competition is fair and Unigraph X is the only company essentially meeting the requirements.

Representative of Dingo Team NGO Alin Goyan stated that many dogs sterilized in the clinic owned by Unigraph X, die in a few months.

October 4 is the World Animal Day. The Media Center organized a Panel Discussion on the issue of stray dogs in Yerevan. The keynote speakers included Deputy Head of Trade and Services Department at the Yerevan Municipality Alfred Hunanyan, representative of Armenian office of Pro Paws British charity organization Nare Aramian and Dingo Team NGO representative Alin Goyan. A representative from Unigraph X was invited by the Media Center, but the company declined the invitation bringing no arguments.
